By Sascha Zäch. The new Synology Disk Station functions as an all-in-one file, backup and print server. It can also be used as an FTP and web server. Also, the increasing number of digicam users has been taken into consideration. Pictures can comfortably be viewed with a photo browser. Unfortunately, the function only supports web formats such as JPEG and GIF.
Even with speed, the DS-101g+ gains points. It supports gigabit Ethernet and the hard drive technology SATA. An additional SATA hard drive can be connected via an external interface. There are three USB 2.0 ports to connect additional devices (such as printers). The basic version of the Disk Station does not include a hard drive. The device costs approx. 630 Francs with a 250 GB hard drive.
The operation and configuration of the Disk Station is especially easy. All settings can be made comfortably via the web browser.
Conclusion:
With its DS-101g+, Synology is introducing a multifunctional, easy-to-use file server to the market at a reasonable price.
